Across RPT we are proud to offer Makaton Training for staff and families to help our individuals 
communicate more effectively, no matter their ability. Makaton is a unique communication system that combines speech, signs, and symbols to help people express themselves and understand others. It's widely used with children and adults who have communication difficulties, such as those with autism, learning disabilities, or speech and language delays.
What is Makaton?
Makaton is a language program that uses a combination of signs (hand gestures), symbols (pictures), and speech. It helps to break down the barriers to communication, providing a simple, supportive system for people to express their needs, thoughts, and feelings.
The training enables individuals to learn these key elements in a way that is easy to use and understand, providing a fantastic foundation for those looking to support others in both personal and professional settings.
Makaton Training Levels
We offer training at various levels:
- Level 1 (Beginner): Introduction to Makaton for those new to the system. This level focuses on core signs and symbols used in everyday life.
- Level 2 (Intermediate): Expands on Level 1 by introducing more signs and symbols, providing a deeper understanding and ability to use Makaton in a variety of settings.
- Level 3 (Advanced): This level helps users to further develop their skills, allowing for more complex sentences and broader communication support.
- Level 4 (Specialist): For those who are looking to become expert users or trainers, this level provides in-depth knowledge and proficiency in using Makaton effectively in all situations.
Primarily starting with Makaton Level 1 & 2 Workshops and progressing over time to attend a Level 3 & 4 Workshop.
Training Flexibility with Two Experienced Tutors
To make Makaton training as accessible and flexible as possible, we are pleased to offer training with two experienced tutors Rebecca and Al Miller.
Both tutors bring a wealth of experience in delivering high-quality training, ensuring that participants receive the best possible support.
This flexibility allows you to choose the times that best fit your schedule. Whether you're looking to attend during the 2 full days or 4 mornings/afternoons, we have options to suit you.
